Build and publish a static website visually, with free software
Hands-on workshop: you leave with a static website you built yourself, published online.
We use Silex, a free software visual editor that produces plain HTML and CSS. You start from an example project rather than a blank page: change the design, make it responsive, set up the menus and the SEO fields, reuse blocks across pages, then publish. Finally, we check the published pages for page weight and accessibility.
HTML and CSS basics are needed: the editor works with tags, classes and CSS properties, so you need to know what they are.
Before you come:
A laptop, not a tablet or phone.
An up-to-date browser (Firefox or Chromium-based).
A gitlab.com account, with the email confirmed, signed in on the browser you bring. The editor stores your site on GitLab and publishes it with GitLab Pages, so it will not open a project without that account. GitLab is open core.
Led by Alex Hoyau, who maintains Silex (https://www.silex.me), free software since 2009, run by the non-profit Silex Labs.
