Curated Encounters: River Valley - Session 1

​Discover how art galleries sit alongside vibrant neighbourhoods. Starting at JW Projects explore the vivid yet poignant works of Weijue Wang. Using wool fibre she uses its softness to explore the possession and lack of rights in women's gender roles through a range of mediums. Appearing sweet and soft, they are filled with traces of violence alongside their more public personas. A short walk away at STPI, experience the surreal universe of Indonesian artist Eko Nugroho. Drawing on street art, graffiti and comics, his masked figures and hybrid creatures transform everyday observations into playful critiques of identity. Grounded in everyday encounters from his residency at STPI, STRANGE MONSTER VIEW casts Eko’s wry eye to Singapore - from tourism, architecture and culture to our increasingly screen-driven lives. *This programme involves light walking, with short outdoor stretches between gallery venues.

​About Daniel Chong

​Daniel Chong (b. 1995, Singapore) is an artist-curator whose curatorial approach grows from the curiosities within his artistic practice. His projects are often sit outside institutional exhibitions and span unconventional spaces. He was awarded the Curator Open Call award by Objectifs in 2022 which culminated in an exhibition Sugar pills for a bitter world. He has curated exhibitions such as Exposure_Exposure (2026) an outdoor exhibition outside of Objectif, Bad Imitation (2022) at Tanjong Pagar Distri-park. As well as looser frameworks such as Stranger(’s) Touch (2022), an art project under the guise of a beauty brand. Continuing his exploration of unconventional spaces, he is currently curating a project at Golden Mile Tower and producing an exhibition at Bras Basah Complex.
