PDX Thread Collective Clothing Swap & Textile Talk
Join PDX Thread Collective (formerly the Portland hub of Remake) for our 2nd annual gathering at PNW Climate Week in Portland - a clothing swap and textile talk! Perhaps you're tired of buying new, or want to lighten your load, we have the right place for you to swap with others and learn about textiles to divert clothing from ending up in the landfill.
Extending the life of an item of clothing by an extra nine months has the potential to reduce its carbon, water and waste footprint by 20-30%. An action we will absolutely be making possible.
Exciting update! We are so heartened to welcome Carly Mick, leader of the University of Oregon's Sports Product Design program and community textile educator, who will be speaking at this swap. If you've ever been curious about textiles, the associated waste, and what we can do about it, you'll be in wonderful hands.
The talk will be followed by a hands-on activity of deconstructing a jacket to better understand textile recyclability challenges. You're welcome to bring a jacket (one that has perhaps seen better days) if you'd like.
All leftover clothing will be donated to Celilo Village's Back to School Event that supports Native youth and their families.

10:00-10:30 - Swap begins in the Gathering Hall
10:40-11:00 - Carly Mick textile talk begins in the Auditorium
11:00-11:30 - Clothing deconstruction activity begins
11:30-12:00 - Swap continues in the Gathering Hall, chance to chat & mingle with others
12:00 - Swap ends
Key Notes
-Please RSVP as space is limited.
-Limit of 10-15 items per person.
-Please only bring washed clothing in gently used condition - no stains or holes.
-Bringing clothing is not necessary to swap. We welcome anyone who would find this event useful.
-Free parking lot on SE 45th street across from Social Good Place.
-Bus #14 stops at 44th & Hawthorne.
-Bus #15 stops at 46th & Belmont.
-Social Good Place is housed in a historic building with significant physical limitations. There is no level entry to the building; accessing the event space requires navigating stairs. You can read Social Good Place's full statement on accessibility here.
