About Event

As new technology continues to shape our lives, how can we use these tools to help imagine a society that reflects our shared values?

Inter(mediate) Spaces invites participants into Living Labs – hands-on workshops where communities reflect on placemaking and memories through guided writing exercises, interviews, walks, and experimentation with AI image generation. No technical expertise is needed: the Labs are open to anyone, of any background or skill level, and are especially designed to bring different generations together (bring a parent, a grandparent, a neighbor).

Each Living Lab is guided by artist Chloé Lee, creator of Reflections of Little Red Dot (SXSW Jury Award 2025, Geneva Int. Film Festival Best Immersive, Lumen Prize Legacy Futures Finalist 2026). In the workshop, she shares her creative process, guiding groups and individuals to reflect on their communities through writing exercises, interviews and experimentation with AI image generation. By the end of the Lab, curated works are installed in an online 3D gallery and serve as the foundation for the long-term VR installation.

These Labs are part of an ongoing, socially engaged, process-driven virtual reality project. Through experimenting with technology and reflecting on community, participants’ contributions become the basis of the custom AI system in the long-term virtual reality project which aims to challenge the status quo of popular AI systems. Prior Living Labs have been held in Berlin, New York City, and Montréal; Philadelphia is the newest chapter.

This November, Inter(mediate) Spaces brings three Living Labs to Philadelphia, with free, limited spots, each spanning a full weekend:

14–15 November · 21–22 November · 28–29 November

Each Lab runs across two days. Day one is a six-hour hands-on workshop: introductions, guided writing, group discussion, and a first look at AI image generation. Day two shifts into a more open flow: rotating stations for continued image-making, one-on-one conversations, and audio recording, building toward a shared presentation of the group's work inside a collective virtual gallery.

The Labs are open to everyone: all backgrounds, skill levels, and ages welcome. No prior experience with AI is needed. Bring your laptop and a smart phone.

This workshop is co-presented by Present Futures and the WRT Design. This project is supported by Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg and Agog.
