This week at Research Saturday, we’re diving into “The African Languages Lab: A Collaborative Approach to Advancing Low-Resource African NLP” by Issaka et al. (2025) ; a paper that reimagines how collaboration can unlock progress in African Natural Language Processing (NLP).
We’ll explore how collective efforts from data creation and model development to open research are helping to close the gap for Africa’s low-resource languages. Together, we’ll discuss what this means for the future of inclusive AI on the continent.
