AI x Bio Seminar : From Sequence to Medicine
🧬 AI × Bio Seminar: From Sequence to Medicine
📅 21 October · 19:00–20:30
📍 Amalienstraße 17, 80333 München
We’re hosting Adam Izdebski, Research Fellow in the Szczurek Lab at Helmholtz Munich. His work is on generative AI for biology and drug discovery.
He will explain how transformer-based large language models, the same architecture behind tools like ChatGPT, can learn the “language” of molecules and biological sequences. He will then show how these models are used for de novo drug design: generating new candidate molecules from scratch instead of only screening existing ones. He will also walk through how the transformer model his team built for drug design is structured, how it is trained and steered toward useful properties, and how its outputs are checked before anything goes near the lab.
The talk is for anyone curious about how AI is changing drug discovery. Basic knowledge of the general transformer architecture is recommended. He will also discuss what these models can already do and where they still fall short.
Afterwards, there will be a networking session with food and drinks to exchange ideas and connect with others interested in AI, drug discovery and biotech.
Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a student, researcher or just curious, and we’re looking forward to seeing each and every one of you there! 💙
