Domestic Work Innovation Hackathon
Welcome to the Domestic Work Innovation Hackathon. This hackathon brings together innovators to explore solutions for trust, transparency, and dignity in domestic work.
Problem Statement
In Kenya, nanny and domestic work is essential but largely informal, undocumented, and undervalued. Despite a legal minimum wage of 14,000 KES, real-world wages vary widely, and many domestic workers do not view the role as a long-term or dignified career due to social stigma.
At the same time, employers struggle to find reliable, trustworthy childcare, while workers face unstable income, lack of recognition, and limited protection. Most agreements are verbal, payments are unrecorded, and work history is difficult to prove.
This hackathon challenges participants to explore how Stellar can be used to introduce trust, transparency, and recognition into the domestic work ecosystem without forcing heavy legal or financial burdens on either side.

Before the hackathon, we encourage all participants to:
Learn about nanny and domestic work in Kenya (wages, challenges, social perceptions).
