AI Safety and K-12 - Raising children in the age of AI
Raising a child has always required a village. Raising one in the age of AI requires a village that actually understands what AI is, and what it means for our kids.
Join us for a networking + panel event bringing together experts from journalism, digital literacy, AI ethics, and public policy to have an honest conversation about children and AI. No hype, no fearmongering, just the perspectives that parents may actually need.
Our panelists:
Hilke Schellmann: Emmy award winning investigative reporter and assistant professor of journalism at New York University, and author of The Algorithm. Hilke investigates how AI-powered systems shape hiring and everyday life, and presides over parent advisory boards
Shannon Kimberly Edwards: Digital literacy and data privacy advisor and author of AI for Families: The Ultimate Guide to Mastering AI. With more than two decades of tech industry experience across the US and Europe, she helps families navigate artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies in their daily lives
Marisa Zalabak: AI ethicist and educational psychologist examining how algorithmic systems shape classroom environments and children's sense of self. Chair of AI Ethics Education & Co-lead of global standards for AI in K-12 education with IEEE.org
David Siffert: NY Assembly candidate for District 66 and policy advocate focused on technology governance, asking who makes the rules and who gets left behind.
Run of show:
6:30–7:00 PM — Networking and light refreshments
7:00–7:45 PM — Panel talks
7:45–8:30 PM — Open Q&A and discussion
Feel free to fill out our Google Form ahead of time to both share your questions to panelists and share a little about your role in regards to K-12. We want this evening to reflect what's actually on your mind.
It takes a village to raise a child. Come be part of ours!
