From Expression to Form: Münter & Bove at the Guggenheim
Join Women of Culture on Saturday, April 11th, for a special Art-full members-only afternoon at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, featuring a private guided tour led by Helen Lee through two exceptional exhibitions: Gabriele Münter: Contours of a World and Carole Bove.
Spanning early modernism to contemporary sculpture, these two artists offer distinct yet compelling approaches to form, expression, and innovation. Gabriele Münter, a pioneering figure of early 20th-century modernism and a key member of Der Blaue Reiter, is celebrated for her vivid color, bold compositions, and emotionally resonant paintings. Her work helped shape the language of modern art and remains strikingly fresh and expressive today.
In contrast, Carole Bove brings a contemporary sensibility to the Guggenheim’s iconic rotunda with immersive sculptures that play with scale, material, and space. Known for transforming industrial materials into works that feel both monumental and fluid, Bove invites viewers into a dynamic physical experience of form that is especially powerful within Frank Lloyd Wright’s landmark architecture.
Together, these exhibitions create a rich conversation across time and medium, offering a fascinating journey from painterly expression to sculptural form. Set within one of New York’s most celebrated cultural spaces, the afternoon promises an inspiring and intimate way to experience both artists through expert guidance and close looking.
For those who’d like to extend the experience, there is also an optional members-only brunch at The Island, a charming waterfront spot known for its seasonal dishes, artisanal pastries, and relaxed, stylish atmosphere — a wonderful opportunity to gather, mingle, and connect before the tour.
