About Event

Bring your stories of land and resistance to life through this hands-on microbial dye workshop. Join us for an evening of environmental storytelling and artmaking as we transform our collective stories into a community dyed quilt.

During NY Climate Week 2025, Climate Connect invites environmental educator and photographer Elizabeth Ramos to spark a conversation on weaving culture, art, and nature through her documentation of Garifuna and Mayan land in Honduras. How are you connected to the land, culturally, generationally, and locally?

As living culture meets live organisms, Genspace guides us through a collaborative microbial dye workshop and collective art piece.

What do I need to bring?

  • a printed photo or small offering (ex: a shell, flower, cultural beads, etc) to add to the community quilt.

About Climate Connect
Climate Connect is a youth-led event dedicated to uniting Brooklyn’s vibrant community around grassroots climate action, art, and storytelling. Hosted by the Brooklyn Hub of Global Shapers (an initiative of the World Economic Forum), Climate Connect features fireside chats with local artists and environmental advocates.

About Genspace
Genspace is the world's first community biology lab — a place where people of all backgrounds can learn, create, and grow with the life sciences.

Since 2009, we have served the greater New York area by offering hands-on STEAM education programs for youth and adults, hosting cultural and outreach events for the public, and providing a membership program to support New York’s community of creatives, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Our programs demystify scientific processes, provide a platform for innovation, and cultivate the next generation of life sciences leaders in emerging global technologies, such as biotechnology, epidemiology, genomics, and many more.

About Brooklyn Global Shapers
