Craft Intensive - Soundscapes
Soundscapes - Lyrical voices, ecological soundscapes, and vocality-based texts.
This month, we’ll discuss and write noisy texts that play with how sound impacts subject, character, and setting. We'll then have an MFA critique of one writer's submitted work (up to 4,000 words long)
Anchor Texts - provided excerpts:
Marguerite Duras - India Song
Theresa Hak Kyung Cha - Dictee
Milo Thesiger-Meacham - Audible Heat
Workshop Format:
Part 1: Deconstruct anchor texts and discuss the craft elements the authors use. We'll then take 15-20 minutes to write from a generative writing prompt, using one of the craft elements found in our anchor texts.
Part 2: MFA-Style critique of one submitted work
About:
Craft Intensive is an advanced section. View our guidelines and submit a sample of your work (click here) before attending your first event. Once accepted, you are welcome to participate in all of our events (advanced and general).
Receiving Anchor Texts + Writing Submission to Workshop:
A Google Drive folder will get emailed at least a week before our workshop, where the writer who signed up to receive feedback will upload their work.
A new folder is sent each month and only shared with writers signed up to attend that month.
Marissa facilitates this writing group. She’ll provide excerpts of the anchor texts for the group to read during the workshop. Please pre-read the writer's submitted work. You'll receive an email once the writing submission is in our Google Drive folder.
This group will always remain a free event. For those who would like to donate, your support helps offset website costs, pay musicians during social events, and buy materials for our craft sessions.
