Entrepreneurs in Residence
Mustafa “Mus” Chagal is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and a long-time judge-mentor for several NVC tracks advising numerous early stage companies. Chagal helped with the launch of Duality Quantum accelerator and is a mentor to deeptech companies, and a member of the Advisory Committee for the George Schultz Innovation Fund.
Vincent Cordero is a venture capitalist focused on breakthrough dual-use technologies and a former C-suite media and sports executive. He is passionate about human elevation and championing paradigm-shifting founders to actualize their world-transforming visions in service to humanity and America.
Alex Hodgkin has spent the bulk of his career in investment banking and entrepreneurship. He has worked at Salomon Smith Barney and Headwaters MB. He is the cofounder and CEO of Intrinsic, a financial services firm providing valuation opinions and transaction advisory services to venture- and private equity-backed companies and high net worth individuals. Hodgkin has been instrumental in creating the entrepreneurship through acquisition program and community at the University of Chicago.
Mike LaVitola is the co-founder and chairman of Foxtrot – a contemporary evolution of the corner store and café. Mike began his career working in investment banking in Austin, Texas, focusing on large-scale, public private partnership infrastructure transactions. He then joined a middle market private equity firm in Chicago before attending Chicago Booth, where he launched Foxtrot in 2013.
Doug Monieson is currently CEO and executive chairman of UICO, a rugged touch screen manufacturing company in Chicago. UICO was founded at Chicago Booth in 2008 and is backed by PE and venture capital. Monieson has successfully led two previous exits, Fishidy which was acquired by RayMarine in 2018 and Gradebeam which was acquired by Textura in 2011.
Jamie Shah operates her family’s business, Chem-Impex, a distributor and manufacturer of high purity laboratory chemicals. Prior to Chem-Impex, Shah was the Chief Operating Officer of The Spice House. She was also previously the lead associate at Hyde Park Angels and Hyde Park Venture Partners, and was selected as a Kauffman Fellows Finalist. She started her career at Goldman Sachs as an investment banker in the consumer retail group, and then was a financial analyst for Google Maps.
Investors in Residence
Duane Jackson is the founder of Author Capital Partners, a private investment firm that partners with essential services businesses at the nexus of business services, financial services, and healthcare services. Duane previously worked at BDT & MSD Partners, an advisory and investment platform built to serve the distinct needs of business owners and strategic, long-term investors. His responsibilities at BDT & MSD included sourcing and executing middle market investments in closely-held businesses and leading research initiatives.
Kim Vender Moffat is an investor, board member, and advisor to early-stage, small, and middle-market growth companies. She began her investment career in venture capital before moving into growth and later stage. She has focused on investing in founder-led and mission-driven businesses and she founded Rosa Partners through which she currently advises and partners with founders and management of private companies, investment firms, and family offices. Kim has served on many corporate boards and currently is a board member of the First Women’s Bank and Impact Engine.
