Panel discussion: Scaling First-of-a-Kind Energy Projects

Challenges to scaling new technologies in energy are significant: First-of-a-kind (FOAK) projects  require infrastructure-scale capital, but remain exposed to execution risk, technology risk and other uncertainties that traditional sources of project finance will not underwrite. Simultaneously, most start-ups necessarily focus on R&D and technical development needed to demonstrate their core technologies, but lack the large scale Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) capabilities needed to go from from pilot to commercial scale.

At a time when we urgently need to scale promising new technologies, powerful innovations are emerging to accelerate FOAK deployment. This panel brings together leading players from across the ecosystem to explore how novel business models, powerful collaborations and innovations in risk-financing are systematically unlocking scale for first-of-a-kind technologies
