CultureBlocs - Creative x Tech Summer Meetup
Join us for a summer CultureBlocs meetup exploring the intersection of technology, data, creativity and culture.
We're hosting a friendly space for people at different stages: tech/creative curious, practitioners, technologists, founders to get together, talk about what they’re building, ask questions, share problems, and explore what technology can do for the cultural sector.
Newcomers welcome! Want to learn more about tech and creative work? Come along!
Whether you work in music, performance, theatre, visual arts, museums, nightlife, digital products, creative tech, or if you’re simply curious and want to learn more, this is a space to connect, share ideas and meet people working across creative and cultural worlds.

We’ll be meeting on a Wednesday evening this summer.
Where
Location to be confirmed, but we’re aiming for a relaxed pub or informal venue in central / east London.
What to expect
For this summer session, we’ll keep things light, social and useful:
6:30pm – Arrivals, drinks and introductions
Start – Welcome to CultureBlocs
Come along, grab a drink, meet people and say hello. A short intro to what CultureBlocs is, why we’re bringing people together, and how newcomers can get involved.
Middle – Share ideas, projects and problems
Informal shares from people working on ideas, products, creative projects or challenges they’d like to explore with the group.
Middle – Open conversation
A group discussion around the ideas shared, plus wider questions like:
How is technology changing creative and cultural work?
Where can data genuinely help artists, audiences and cultural organisations?
What tools, platforms or spaces are missing?
How can people new to the sector find their way in?
End – Newcomer-friendly networking
A chance to chat in smaller groups, ask questions, find collaborators, or simply meet people doing interesting things.
Afterwards – More drinks and informal chat
Stick around for more conversation if you’d like.
Hosts
CultureBlocs is hosted by Mark Simpkins and Oliver Outen. Both work at the intersection of technology and creativity.
Mark helped organise the Mycelia meetups for Imogen Heap and helped build the first version of The Creative Passport. He has years of experience in digital technology and has delivered work across media, fashion, music, television and theatre.
Oliver previously worked as a promoter and DJ/Producer in nightlife, and now works in the tech sector building apps, websites and digital data products.
