About Event

Join New Citizen Project for the launch of our scoping report: Deliberative Democracy & Pensions: Building a democratic mandate for pensions reform.

This event marks the culmination of a scoping project exploring how to bring citizens directly into shaping the future of pensions policy.

The report

The UK pensions system is at a critical juncture. The Pensions Commission was re-established in 2025 to ‘finish the job’, and will issue its final report next year.

Through this scoping project, we have worked with stakeholders from across the pensions system to identify the opportunities and considerations for citizen involvement - in particular through the use of deliberative processes.

The event

This event is for anyone committed to building a pensions system that is not only sustainable and adequate but also trusted and shaped by the people whose futures depend on it.

The event will run as follows:

  • 2:30-3pm - arrivals, refreshments & networking

  • 3-3:45pm - welcome, report overview & provocation

  • 3:45-4:30pm - panel discussion, Q&A chaired by Catherine Foot (Standard Life Centre for the Future of Retirement)

  • 4:30-5pm - networking

Glyn Bradley (Chair of Pensions Board, IFoA) will open the event, and you'll then hear from the New Citizen Project team who will share key insights and recommendations from their report. This will be followed by an expert panel discussion and Q&A.
