In this 3 hour workshop, participants will learn how to use TouchDesigner to create video effects that interactive directly with their webcam feed. The purpose and goal of this workshop is to teach all users about the basic of TouchDesigner, and how to use plugins to create interactive video art using body tracking, hand gesture control, and subject isolation.
Requirements:
A laptop* that can run video editing software/3d renders/video games
Laptop charger
Webcam (integrated is fine)
Mouse (you will fall behind without one)
Up-to-date TouchDesigner version (free version ok!)
*Can your laptop handle it:
Apple silicon mac (m2/m3/m4) → good
Windows laptop with nvidia graphics → good
Windows laptop with no graphics card → risky
Non-Mac/Windows → no
What you'll be learning:
As someone who is self-taught, I understand how daunting TouchDesigner can be for a first time user. The purpose of this workshop is to teach new users who are interested in this software best practices to make using TouchDesigner less confusing:
Basic UI navigation, keyboard shortcuts, and project architecture
TouchDesigner node families, their purposes and how they communicate with each other
Image/Video compositing
Tips + advice on how to learn best on your own to avoid burnout and losing motivation
What you will be getting:
Starter project file that they will be using for the workshop
Finished project file
Custom video filters I've used in previous workflows
