Trade Exploration Webinar: East Asia

Choosing an Entry Pathway in a Fragmented Region

Southeast Asia is often treated as a single growth market, but in reality it is a highly fragmented region with very different regulatory systems, business cultures, cost structures, and execution capabilities. At the same time, China continues to evolve as a strategic market, a destination for scale, and increasingly as a platform for regional expansion, supply chain integration, and cross-border trade.

This Trade Without Borders Virtual Pre-Summit Event helps Canadian companies move beyond country selection and focus instead on choosing the right market-entry pathway across both Southeast Asia and China, whether market-driven, manufacturing-led, or ecosystem-based. We will explore how ASEAN markets play distinct roles (as demand hubs, talent bases, production centers, or regional HQ locations), and how China’s newest economic free zone — Hainan — is emerging as a uniquely accessible entry point for foreign companies seeking lower-friction exposure to China’s consumer market and regional trade networks.

By understanding the complementary strengths of ASEAN and China, Canadian companies can reduce costly trial-and-error, design a scalable expansion strategy, and build a durable long-term presence in Asia — rather than a short-term foothold in one market.

This conversation is intentionally exploratory. The summit will provide a full experience.

Meet the Speaker

Ravenna Chen brings a regional, execution-focused lens on Southeast Asia. She is the CEO of Intrinsic SEA, a cross-border strategy and investment advisory firm supporting global market expansion across Southeast Asia.

Recognized as a Forbes China Top 100 leader and a “Haizhi Expert” by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Ravenna has over a decade of experience advising companies across Southeast Asia, Australia, and Hong Kong. She has led major China–ASEAN and RCEP collaborations and supported the international expansion of 200+ tech-driven companies across deep tech, digital economy, green energy, and advanced manufacturing.

Her perspective helps companies understand not just where to enter Southeast Asia, but how different entry pathways shape long-term execution and scale.

The Full Experience: Trade Without Borders Summit

This webinar is part of the Trade Without Borders pre-summit series.
The Trade Without Borders Summit is the full experience.

The summit brings together operators, investors, and ecosystem leaders for deeper, comparative, and interactive conversations about global market entry. It is designed for participants who want to move beyond orientation and into decision-level insight.

The summit will feature China and ASEAN-focused panels that go further by examining (among other themes):

  • How different entry pathways perform in practice across the region

  • What execution really looks like once companies establish a presence

  • How firms adapt strategy as they scale across multiple markets

For companies serious about engaging East Asia, the summit is where insight becomes perspective — and where informed decisions begin to take shape.
