Melbourne: Peaceful Pause at the Australia AI Summit

​The Australia AI Summit runs 7-9 September at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. We'll be there Tuesday 8 September, when the conference gets going and crowds are biggest.

​AI companies are competing to build something smarter than us. They also say they can't yet control it. The summit is about buying it faster. We'll be outside, talking to delegates, passers-by and the media.

​Come to either or both:

• ​8 Sept 08:00-09:00 as summit attendees walk in

• ​8 Sept 11:30-13:00 to catch the lunch crowd (main event)

​On the day

• ​A stall where we help people write to their MP on the spot

• ​A public survey on what Australians think AI researchers believe about extinction risk

• ​A staged AI race: volunteers wear the names of AI labs, walk a loop with live commentary, nobody slowing down

​An hour with no prep is a genuinely useful contribution. Join whichever activities appeal.

​We'll head to a nearby cafe once we pack up, for anyone who wants to stay on.
