Leaving Tech: Storytelling Circles for Marginalized Communities
Feeling stuck in Tech’s golden handcuffs?
When you're part of a marginalized community, leaving a stable tech job often comes with much higher risks and costs compared to the "default" Tech worker.
Ahead of the Leaving Tech podcast launch later this year — where we'll explore the systemic barriers in conversation with marginalized folks who have left the industry — we’re holding a small, private gathering who dream of leaving but feel stuck, scared, or unsure about how to make the jump.
This is a supportive space, rooted in anti-oppressive principles, where you can openly discuss your lived experiences, find inspiration, and genuinely connect with others on similar paths.
What we'll do
We'll create storytelling circles that follow a "call and response" model. You'll hear our guest storytellers respond to a prompt around a few key themes, such as the "this is it" moment, the practical realities of leaving, and running away from something versus running toward something.
From there, you'll have the chance to respond and share your own stories, questions, and reflections. There is absolutely no pressure to speak. You can always just come, hold space, and listen.
About our Guest Storytellers
Sandra Camacho (she/her) is an Ex-Googler (8 years) turned independent design educator, learning designer, and community-builder based in Paris, France. She's the founder of Leaving Tech, Design Changemakers, and the Inclusive Design Jam.
Kareem Elsayed (he/him): An Ex-Googler (7 years) turned independent consultant, facilitator, and coach based in the Bay Area, Kareem helps leaders and individuals navigate complex transitions and cultivate healthier, more intentional paths forward.
Ticket Pricing
Sliding scale pricing helps make this experience accessible to as many as possible while also helping us cover the cost of the venue:

Standard Ticket: $15 – For those with disposable income
Confidentiality, access, & safety
We're currently securing a location either in San Francisco or the Peninsula and will confirm it soon.
Because of the vulnerable nature of the stories that are shared, we are implementing strict boundaries to protect the group.
Absolute Privacy: Nobody will see your name on any attendee list. You don't have to state who you are, your title, or where you work.
Zero Recordings: Nothing will be recorded and no photos will be taken without your explicit consent.
Registration Verification: Real names are required when you register for the convener to verify who you are (and keep others safe). You're welcome to bring a guest, provided they are officially registered.
Inclusion, Equity, & Safety: We're committed to honoring inclusive language, equal opportunity to participate, and a secure environment for all participants. All attendees must abide by our community agreements; anyone violating these shared boundaries will be removed from the gathering.
Accessibility: We'll make this space accessible through extensive accessibility options (to be specified once venue is confirmed) and will do our best to honor any other requests for accommodations.
