After getting his hands on a grey-market first-gen iPhone smuggled out of the U.S. before it was even released, James Pinto enlisted a Russian inter-ballistic missile engineer to help him hack his way into building the world’s first mobile banking app.
It was (probably) illegal & (certainly) audacious, but it paid off.
Instead of shutting him down, Apple brought him in. He showed them how third-party developers could push iOS further - becoming Europe’s first official iPhone developer in April 2008 - eventually releasing over 27 App Store #1s, and pioneering all of the main app verticals, inventing the hybrid app model along the way.
In this chat, we’ll draw on this + his experience as UK lead of the AI Collective (the world’s largest AI Community) to explore how founders can beat the game by finding the cracks & bending the rules as a new era rapidly approaches
