City Nature Challenge 2026: London 🌿

The City Nature Challenge is a global citizen science initiative that invites people around the world to observe, record, and celebrate nature in their cities.

This year, The Green Londoner and Regen City are coming together to mobilise 1,000 Londoners to take part across the capital from 24 to 27 April. Our goal is simple: get as many people as possible outside, noticing and documenting urban wildlife—from birds and plants to insects and fungi—and contributing to a shared, global dataset.

To join our specific campaign and track our collective impact, sign up here: The Green Londoner x Regen City – City Nature Challenge 2026.

The Wider London Effort

Our local efforts contribute to the broader city-wide mission led by the Natural History Museum, the lead organiser of the London challenge. All observations will feed into the Official CNC Greater London iNaturalist project.

How to take part

Taking part is easy. Simply download the iNaturalist app, head outdoors anywhere in London, and start recording what you see. Every observation counts. Whether you’re in a park, garden, street, or local green space, you can contribute to real scientific data used by researchers and local authorities to protect and restore urban nature.

Join us in person: Warren Farm (25 April)

As part of the campaign, we will also be offering a great opportunity to meet in person at Warren Farm—the newly recognised Local Nature Reserve in Ealing. This special gathering will bring people together to explore the site, record species collectively, and connect with like-minded Londoners. Please note that anyone wishing to attend the Warren Farm event must register separately via a dedicated link by clicking here: https://luma.com/4rj0g9rq

By joining, you will:

  • Reconnect with nature in your local area.

  • Learn to identify species and better understand biodiversity.

  • Contribute to real scientific data for the Natural History Museum and global researchers.

  • Raise awareness of the importance of urban nature.

  • Inspire others to take action.

Join the challenge, download iNaturalist, and start recording.
