Join 1,000+ Londoners in the City Nature Challenge 2026 campaign (24–27 April)
The City Nature Challenge 2026 is a global citizen science initiative that invites people around the world to observe, record and celebrate nature in their cities. This year, The Green Londoner and Regen City are coming together to mobilise 1,000 Londoners to take part across the capital from 24 to 27 April.
The goal is simple: get as many people as possible outside, noticing and documenting urban wildlife — from birds and plants to insects and fungi — and contributing to a shared, global dataset.
Taking part is easy. All you need to do is download the iNaturalist app, head outdoors anywhere in London, and start recording what you see. Every observation counts. Whether you’re in a park, garden, street or local green space, you can contribute.

Your observations will be uploaded to a global platform used by scientists, researchers and local authorities to better understand biodiversity, track species and inform conservation efforts. This data plays a real role in shaping how cities protect and restore nature.
This challenge matters because cities are home to more wildlife than we often realise — but also face growing pressure from development, pollution and climate change. By taking part, you help make urban nature visible, valued and better protected.
The campaign is open to everyone:
Individuals and families
Schools and universities
Community groups and “Friends of” parks
Local authorities
Businesses and organisations
Whether you’re an expert or a complete beginner, your contribution is valuable.
As part of the campaign, we will also be offering a great opportunity to meet in person at Warren Farm on 25 April — the newly recognised Local Nature Reserve in Ealing. This special gathering will bring people together to explore the site, record species collectively and connect with like-minded Londoners who care about nature and the future of the city.
By joining, you will:
Reconnect with nature in your local area
Learn to identify species and better understand biodiversity
Contribute to real scientific data
Be part of a collective effort across London and globally
Raise awareness of the importance of urban nature
Inspire others to take action
This is a unique opportunity to turn curiosity into action and be part of a growing movement to bring nature back into the heart of our cities.
Join the challenge, download iNaturalist, and start recording.
