Raíces y Resiliencia: Mural Unveiling with Dasic Fernández
As Climate Week NYC comes to a close, we're proud to announce a celebration that brings climate justice home to Loisaida.
Sixth Street Community Center, in collaboration with The Action Lab, is unveiling a new mural by artist Dasic Fernández, who is painting the entire face of our building with a work inspired by climate resilience.
We gather on the eve of Indigenous Peoples' Day, on Lenapehoking, the homeland of the Lenape people, and in the final days of Hispanic Heritage Month, in a neighborhood that Puerto Rican and Latinx residents named, built, and defended. Loisaida's community gardens, mutual aid networks, and fight for its own future have always been climate resilience work, even before anyone called it that.

About the artist
Dasic Fernández is a Chilean-born muralist based in New York whose vivid, large-scale street murals are known around the world. Shaped by the street culture of 1990s Chile and a background in architecture, his work carries a deep political and social commitment. Follow him at @dasicfernandez.
About Sixth Street Community Center
For decades, SSCC has been a hub for food sovereignty, climate justice, and social justice organizing on the Lower East Side, built by generations of neighbors, gardeners, and organizers. This mural honors that legacy and carries it forward on the walls of the building they made home.
