Natural Capital, Tipping Points, and Systemic Risk
Event Overview
Are natural capital assets a natural hedge against the polycrisis? What role can central banks play in the development of this asset class? Could monetary policy include natural capital considerations? Who could assume the custodian role of natural capital assets? How could price discovery for the asset class be supported? How are indigenous rights safeguarded? What are the legal concerns for the asset owners?
Join us for a Beyond Bretton Woods panel on systemic risks and the disconnect between financial market valuation and planetary realities. The discussion will explore the implications on safeguarding the wealth and future of next generations in a polycrisis world.
Registration start at 8.30 am. ID Required for entrance.
The Hidden Risks
The U.S. stock market (S&P 500) is valued at $54 trillion—nearly half of the world's stock value—with 30% concentrated in just seven companies, the "Magnificent 7". While financial analysts assume risks like market concentration, trade wars, AI disruption, and climate challenges, scientists and risk experts warn of a deeper polycrisis: multiple overlapping risks that could trigger systemic risks. If markets continue to ignore fail these non-linear systemic risks, pensions, savings, and long-term security are at stake unless natural systems are properly valued as a core to economic resilience.
