Speculative Futures BCN (Re)Launch & Anniversary
We realize It’s been a few years since our last event but we’re back! Join us as we (re)launch the Speculative Futures Barcelona chapter. We’re also celebrating 11 years since the first Speculative Futures meetup was organized in San Francisco in 2015. We'll be in conversation with 2 local design futurists, Cecelia Tham and Melanie Cieslinski. They'll talk about some of their work and the challenges of designing futures today.

[Cece Tham, Co-Founder Futurity Systems]
Cecilia is an award-winning futurist, working at the intersection of entrepreneurship, technology, science, and design. Currently founder and CEO of Futurity Systems, providing futures-as-a-service to help companies and organizations to build better futures faster, together. She is currently a PhD researcher researching the topic of Algorithmic Futuring at Institute of Design at Illinois Institute of Technology.

[Melanie Cieslinski]
Melanie is a speculative designer and futurist whose methodology is informed by her studies in Design and Digital Transformation in Germany and the Netherlands. She specializes in the critical evaluation of the impact of technological systems on the human and non-human body. The German Design Council recognized her practice in 2025 by nominating her for the prestigious ‘Newcomer of the Year 2026’ award. Currently, she holds a position at an NGO in Terrassa (Barcelona), where she researches how speculative design can support local cultural initiatives.

Cecilia es una futurista galardonada por su trabajo en la intersección entre el emprendimiento, la tecnología, la ciencia y el diseño. Actualmente es fundadora y directora ejecutiva de Futurity Systems, donde ofrece «futuros como servicio» para ayudar a empresas y organizaciones a construir juntos un futuro mejor y más rápido. En la actualidad es investigadora de doctorado en el Instituto de Diseño del Instituto Tecnológico de Illinois, donde investiga la temática del «futuro algorítmico».

[Melanie Cieslinski]
Melanie es una diseñadora especulativa y futurista cuya metodología se basa en sus estudios de Diseño y Transformación Digital en Alemania y los Países Bajos. Se especializa en la evaluación crítica del impacto de los sistemas tecnológicos sobre el cuerpo humano y no humano. El Consejo Alemán de Diseño reconoció su labor en 2025 al nominarla para el prestigioso premio «Newcomer of the Year 2026’ award». Actualmente, ocupa un puesto en una ONG en Terrassa (Barcelona), donde investiga cómo el diseño especulativo puede apoyar las iniciativas culturales locales.
