About Event

AI can build a website or an app in an hour. It will also make it look like everyone else's.

On a website, you get the same dark background, the same gradient headline and the same three cards. Customers can't tell you from the next product. In a web app, it gets worse. By the 50th screen, your app no longer matches its first screen.

The fix is a small design system: your rules for logo, fonts, colours, buttons, icons, image style and spacing. You write them once. AI follows them every time.

In this hands-on session, Chip shows you how to spot AI slop. Then you build your own design system in Paper, a free design tool that works with AI, and use it on your real product. Bring your laptop. You need a paid Claude Code or Codex plan.

For anyone building a product right now, in any role: founders, PMs, software engineers, data analysts and designers. You do not need to be a designer.

Led by Chip Dong Lim (Fractional product designer, led AI design at Grab). Chip shipped Driver Voice AI to 1M+ drivers at Grab. Now he keeps several fast-changing products consistent with Paper and AI.

About the session

  1. See the slop (talk, 15 mins). First, learn to see it. Chip shows real websites that look like every other website, and a 5-minute test to spot AI slop on any site, including yours. Then he shows one web app before and after it got a design system.

  2. Write your rules once. Next, make it yours. Pick three words for how your own product should feel. Then turn them into rules in Paper: your fonts, colours, buttons, icons, image style and spacing. You set them up one time, and AI follows them every time after.

  3. Change once, then add a page. This is where you test your rules. Change one colour, and every screen changes with it. Then ask AI for a new page, for the web or for mobile. If your rules work, the new page matches the rest without any extra instructions.

  4. Before and after. Now see the difference on your real product. Take one screen, for example your home page, and remake it with your rules. Put the old and the new side by side. Three people show theirs to the room.

What you will leave with

  • Paper, set up on your own laptop.

  • A one-page brand sheet: your rules, written once.

  • A new page that already matches your look.

  • A before-and-after of a real screen from your product.

  • A starter template that you make during the evening, to reuse on your next product.

This is a strong start, not a complete design system. One evening is not enough for that, but you will know how to keep going.

Before you come

Before Tuesday, at home

  1. Download Paper Desktop at paper.design and sign in. It is free. The free plan gives you 100 AI actions a week. That is enough for this session, so do not use them up before Tuesday.

  2. Install Claude Code or Codex and sign in with a paid plan. A free Claude or ChatGPT account will not work.

Do both at home. If 40 people download Paper on the venue wifi, we lose half the session.

On the night, bring

  • Your laptop, fully charged, and its charger. A phone or a tablet will not work.

  • A product to work on. Any product works: your own, or one you want to improve. If you like, add its website address when you register. No product yet? We give you a sample.

Need help with any of these items? Ask in our WhatsApp community. We will help you before Tuesday.

The evening

  • 18:30–18:45 See the slop (talk)

  • 18:45–19:20 Write your rules once (hands-on)

  • 19:20–19:30 Break

  • 19:30–19:55 Change once, then add a page (hands-on)

  • 19:55–20:30 Before and after (hands-on, three people show theirs)

Arriving: the building uses a self-registration kiosk on Level 1. Give yourself 5 extra minutes. If your set-up does not work, tell us when you arrive. We help you before the talk at 18:30.

Seats are limited, so we approve each registration. Register early.

Organiser: AI Power Users ⚡️

AI Power Users is a Singapore community for people who use AI in their work: founders, operators and people whose jobs changed because of AI. We run free, practical, hands-on workshops led by people who do the work. You leave with something you can use the next day.
