Wearing the Land: A land-based clothing upcycling workshop
Hello earthlings!
Join me (Sarah Fitzpatrick / Medicine Mender) this Sunday the 26th for a clothing upcycling workshop!
The first hour we will do a ritual to honor the season of fall internally and externally, individually and collectively; a time for harvest, reflection, release, grief, and gratitude.
I will loosely guide participants to take a short moment to reflect on their own personal journeys over this past year, as well as our collective's journey... There's so much to grieve and also to celebrate. We will honor the harvest, the abundance as well as that which we are letting go, the leaves that are falling; the leaves that will make space on our branches and become nourishment for the soil’s life.
The topic of collective liberation will be a part of the conversation; grief over gen0c!de and other humanitarian and ecological issues are invited.
We then will move into making patches for adorning our clothing to either honor what came up in the ritual or as a symbol of (re)connecting ourselves to the cyclical nature of the Earth (instead of to the linear, extractive, capitalist movement of time).
For the following 1.5 hours, we will dye fabric patches with the imprint of the multi-colored leaves with a method called fabric pounding and then we will hand or machine sew these patches onto clothing piece(s)!
No sewing experience necessary
And BYO clothing to add the patches onto
The sliding scale cost is $12-40
(Funds will go towards the cost of the secondhand materials, a humble payment for myself as the facilitator and planner, and then at least 40% of the funds will go to families in G@za
Venmo, zelle and cash are ideal payment options
Address will be given to those who sign up
Email me if you need the address
We will be pounding/printing the fabric outdoors so dress accordingly!
