Tongues of Fire Workshop X Cowboy Sunday Folk Fest
At the March Tongues of Fire writers workshop, we are stepping outside the usual workshop flow to create community poetry.
Community poetry is a shared, participatory writing practice that invites people to create in real time, in relationship with one another. Regardless of your writing experience, this form of poetry will encourage reflection and connection to the memories of your ancestors.
At this activation, the sisters of the yam Writing Society will invite attendees to write short, open-form poems in the essence of their ancestors. Through gentle prompts and guided reflection, participants will draw from memory, lineage, and imagination to honor those who came before them.
These written offerings will be collected, compiled, and presented as a communal poem, reconnecting us to ancestral presence, reclaiming narrative, and preserving the essence of our histories through language. Please stop by and add your voice to the collective poem.
