About Event

Countries worldwide are moving to decarbonize their energy systems while working to create positive socioeconomic development for their people. In particular, Global South communities, civil society, and governments are working to seize transition opportunities – such as the build out of critical minerals and clean tech supply chains – by designing and deploying laws and policy regimes to direct capital, shift behaviors, and improve living standards.

This high-level panel at COP30 will bring together leaders from Global South institutions to explore how countries can leverage resource wealth and industrial capacity to drive equitable climate action. The discussion will move beyond the traditional supply chain narrative to examine the potential benefits of green industrialization, economic diversification, and securing a truly Just Transition for frontline communities.

Questions for consideration will include:

  • How is progress on climate action and its economic promises so far, and what are the needs of today?

  • How are non-state actors thinking about their countries’ own resources and competitive advantage amidst energy transition?

  • What has been the role of transnational cooperation among non-state actors, and how should this cooperation be enhanced?

  • How can emerging economies design policies that treat the energy transition not as a cost but as an engine from growth and job creation?

Featuring

  • Eddy Soeparno, Member and Deputy Speaker, People's Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia

  • Arunabha Ghosh, Special Envoy of the COP30 Presidency for South Asia; and CEO, The Council on Energy, Environment and Water

  • Leslie Johnston, CEO, Laudes Foundation

  • Diego Casaes, Program Director, Climate Emergency Collaboration Group
