Archiving childhood
About this event
This session will be led by former Ambivalent Archives convenor Dr Sophie Marie Niang, a writer, teacher and researcher based in London. She is currently a Lecturer in Cultural Policy at King’s College London. Her academic work, sitting at the intersection of black feminist thought, cultural studies, queer of colour critique and black studies, explores practices of worldmaking and refusal across geographic and temporal boundaries.
This reading session will explore the question of archiving the thoughts, experiences, and events of childhood/children. Drawing on critical childhood studies, we will reflect upon the possibilities for archiving childhood, centring the question of children’s agency (or lack thereof) in the process. How can children themselves participate in the archiving process? How do they/can they consent to their experiences being archives?
