About Event

Join NSF I-Corps Hub Northwest and Scott Walbrun, Venture Capitalist at BMW i Ventures, for a three-part intensive series designed to take you from lab innovation to investor-ready.

This hands-on program demystifies fundraising by teaching you how investors evaluate startups, and how to build a model that proves your venture’s potential.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Master the Fundamentals: Turn assumptions and raw data into a strategic growth plan

  • Raise Capital with Confidence: Understand what VCs look for, and what they won’t fund

  • Build as You Go: Work directly in Excel and develop your own financial model using a guided template

Session II: Company Building

Assessing Market & Technology Risk, Crafting Fundable Milestones, and Strategic Trade Offs

Monday, March 2, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM PST | Virtual

The journey from lab to market is paved with assumptions. This session focuses on turning those assumptions into a rigorous, fundable strategy.

You’ll learn how to identify the key risks that could limit growth, define milestones investors trust, and make strategic tradeoffs that strengthen your business case.

Scott will also introduce the startup’s core economic engine and guide you through building your first financial framework, including unit-level and non-unit cost estimates, using a provided Excel template.

Session III: Unit Economics & Financial Modeling

Unit Economics, Forecasting Growth, and Assessing Cash Needs

Thursday, March 12, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM PST | Virtual
