Type, and, Life // a design forum by A New Design Club
You've probably read a typeface one of these people drew. You've maybe eaten a snack, or seen a car badge, or navigated a train station shaped by their work. Now is the time to get to know them and all the process behind their works!
An afternoon of keynote talks followed by an open panel, with three typeface designers whose work is everywhere and whose process is rarely visible.
Isaías Loaiza & Jaime Martínez — Enigma Diseño (Puebla, México)
Mexico's most prolific type design studio, and Typography Agency of the Year at the 2025 Latin American Design Awards. Their client list runs from Topo Chico and Cheetos to Aston Martin and Lamborghini. They also drew the official typeface for the Government of Mexico, the wayfinding system for the Tren Maya, and the brand identity for Glyphs, the application most type designers open every day.
Kalapi Gajjar — Universal Thirst (Reykjavik, Iceland; Bangalore, India; Vancouver, Canada)
Typeface designer and font engineer, trained at Reading. Universal Thirst builds typefaces for the writing systems of the Indian subcontinent, working on commissions for Google, Apple, Monotype, Frieze Art Fair, and The Gourmand. His work sits where historical research, technical engineering, and contemporary practice meet.
Immediately after we have a seminar hosted by Ernesto Peña (Northeastern University, Vancouver), with all three plus Alfredo Sherman. Open questions. Bring your technical questions that bothered you for a while or those questions your instructors can't (or won't) answer.
Why AND club exists
Vancouver has a lot of talented design students and professionals that almost never share a room. The events that could fix that tend to cost more than we can justify. This one is a community event, and it is priced accordingly.
Don't be afraid to come alone. You will not be the only person who did 🙂
