can art still change the world?
Our sociocultural systems aren't designed to support artists who challenge them. Funding, platforms and algorithms reward what's safe, familiar and scalable, while work that questions the status quo struggles to be seen or sustained. Yet that's often the work that propels culture forward.
At this event, we're gonna unpack this question:
What role can artists & creatives play in challenging the systems & status quo we live in?
🎙️ what you can expect
A lightning talk by Farfama Hargaaya, a media artist who works in experimental digital games and web applications. Drawing on examples of political art games made by small creators, Farfama will explore how games can question the status quo, and what it means to be an artist working in today's society. The talk will set the scene for....
Deep-dive discussions in small groups, where you can share your personal stories/dreams/struggles/experiences around art, creativity & social change. Whether you consider yourself a creative or not, your perspective is welcome; knowledge-sharing is also welcome!
⚠️ Come ready to think & engage!
This is not an event for passive participation or space to just hand out your business card. We strongly encourage you to come ready to sincerely engage in the group discussions!

What is Changemakers Unplugged?
This event is vol. 6 of Changemakers Unplugged. We launched this series last year at Google for Startups, bringing changemakers across Tokyo together to have deeper conversations about important topics (including aging society, sustainable business, AI safety, and sustainable community-building.) Now we're continuing it at our home base in Meguro, with a brand new format.
What is Impact HUB Tokyo?
Impact HUB Tokyo (IHT) is part of the global Impact HUB network—one of the world's largest communities for purpose-driven entrepreneurs. Since its opening in Meguro in 2013, IHT has served as a coworking and incubation space in Meguro, bringing together startups, freelancers, artists, and NPO leaders from Japan and abroad. Accredited as an incubation center by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in 2022, it continues to provide support for early-stage entrepreneurs through incubation programs and community initiatives. In 2023, IHT opened Communita Café, a neighborhood café that functions as a gathering place where locals and members can meet, exchange ideas, and build meaningful connections.
