Join our Online Abstract Painting Club taster session, a one-off class inspired by the work of contemporary abstract painter Jadé Fadojutimi. Known for her dynamic use of colour, movement, and layered surfaces, Fadojutimi’s work offers a rich starting point for exploring expressive abstraction.
Through discussion, demonstration, and guided making, we’ll focus on building a multimedia abstract painting, working with oils, acrylics, and oil pastels. The session will explore how layering, stencilling, and revealing undercolours can create depth, energy, and rhythm within a composition.
What we’ll explore
Colour theory and mixing strategies for bold, nuanced palettes
Creating movement and flow through mark-making and composition
Layering with multiple materials to build complexity
Using stencils and masking to reveal and disrupt underlayers
Translating Fadojutimi’s approach into your own abstract language
The session begins with a short visual discussion of Fadojutimi’s work, followed by a live demonstration and time to experiment, ask questions, and develop your own piece. This class is designed as a relaxed introduction to the Abstract Painting Club format — perfect if you’re considering joining future sessions or simply want to explore abstraction in a focused, supportive setting.
Materials
I will be demonstrating with acylics and oil pastels but will also talk through oils as well.
Please ensure you have a comfortable space set up beforehand where you can paint freely and get a little messy if needed.
Hosted by Martha Lamont.
