Beyond Regulatory Approval: How MedTech Actually Gets Adopted in the NHS

Jennifer Head is Founder and Director of Midnight Health Ltd, a consultancy specialising in the commercialisation and adoption of medical technologies within the NHS.

She works with MedTech, Diagnostics, and Digital Health companies to assess market viability and develop practical NHS entry strategies. Her work focuses on translating innovation into solutions which can be realistically adopted and sustained within the UK healthcare system.

Jennifer works closely with organisations across the UK health innovation ecosystem, including the NHS, NIHR, NICE, CEP, university innovation departments and accelerator programmes supporting early-stage health technology companies.

Her work spans early-stage innovation through to national implementation, helping organisations understand not only whether a technology can enter the NHS but, also, whether it should, and what credible pathway will enable that to happen.

What we'll cover

This session will explore how innovators can develop a credible and practical strategy for entering the NHS market.

While many companies focus heavily on regulatory approval and clinical evidence, successful NHS adoption depends on a much broader set of commercial, operational, and system-level factors.

Drawing on real-world experience supporting MedTech innovators, we will explore:

  • How NHS decision-making works across clinicians, commissioners, procurement teams, and integrated care systems

  • The different commercial pathways into the NHS and how to determine which is most appropriate for your technology

  • Why strong clinical evidence alone is rarely enough to drive adoption

  • Common strategic mistakes innovators make when approaching the NHS market

  • How to realistically assess whether the NHS represents a viable and scalable commercial opportunity

About the Virtual Global Expert Program

Getting time with the right expert at the right moment can change the trajectory of a company. We're making that easier to access across WA.

Five themed virtual sessions with leading global practitioners, plus limited 1:1 office hours available to deep dive further.

Presented by the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub, with the support of the Government of Western Australia Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
