About Event

Join Design It For Us, in partnership with Project Reboot, Political Computer Science at Berkeley, California Review Management, Reconnect Stanford, Psychology of Technology Institute, and Youth Power Project, for an evening of conversation and connection centered on the real impacts of social media on young people and society.

The program will feature a screening of Can’t Look Away: The Case Against Social Media, followed by an in-depth fireside chat with Arturo Béjar, Meta whistleblower and featured expert in the documentary, and Margi Murphy, an investigative reporter at Bloomberg who covers social media, technology, and accountability. Drawing on his experience at Facebook, Béjar will offer rare, first-hand insight into how social media platforms shape youth mental health, while Murphy brings a journalist’s perspective on industry practices, oversight, and the broader implications for the public. Together, they will explore what meaningful accountability can look like moving forward.

This event welcomes young adults who are new to conversations about tech accountability, alongside experienced advocates, organizers, and researchers. Whether this is your first time engaging with this issue or you’ve been working in this space for years, this evening is designed to meet you where you are.
