Byron Tech Meetup: Handmade Values in an Automated World
A Byron Tech Meetup evening of conversation, connection, and community. Generously sponsored by Zepto.
Join us for an evening of relaxed conversation, good food, and thoughtful discussion with the Byron tech and creative community.
We’ll kick things off with drinks, snacks, and plenty of time to mingle. This is very much a social night, designed for meeting new people, catching up with familiar faces, and building real relationships. You’ll be welcomed with a drink on arrival, and there’ll be a generous spread of cheese, meats, crackers, bread, and fruit to enjoy throughout the evening.
As part of the night, we’ll host a short panel conversation exploring the theme “Handmade Values in an Automated World.” In a place like Byron, where handmade, intentional work is part of the culture, we’ll dig into how AI fits (or doesn’t) into businesses and work built around care, quality, and human judgment.
The panel will touch on:
Where AI genuinely supports quality and craft
Where speed and automation start to erode what makes work feel human
How people are choosing what to automate, and what to protect
What “intentional” AI use looks like
This isn’t an AI-for-or-against debate. It’s a grounded, practical conversation based on lived experience, followed by plenty of time to continue the discussion over drinks.
Panel speakers
Chris Jewell — Co-founder & President, Zepto
Elle Meredith — Software Engineer, Consultant & Coach, Blackmill Consulting
Dave Berner - Co-Founder & CTO, Parachute
Moderated by Elizabeth Griffiths - Founder, WellcomeAI.
Whether you come for the conversation, the community, or just a relaxed night out with smart people, you’re very welcome.
Big thanks to Chris Jewell and the Zepto team for sponsoring the event.
