Thinking with Nodes: Session #1 - Touchdesigner
Confusing Touchdesigner workshops not working out for you? Stuck in tutorial hell? Want to see how people solve real problems with this freaking program?! You should come hang out on April 15th from 6-8pm for a workshop I've been wanting to try!
The plan is to pick something to work on together; maybe we find a post from Instagram we want to recreate, maybe we make something up on the spot. Whatever we pick, as I work I'll try my best to narrate everything I'm doing to help you understand what the process is.
Feel free to bring a laptop with Touchdesigner installed if you want to node-along!
What is Thinking with Nodes?
Node-based programming tools provide a way of building systems visually. Instead of writing lines of code, you're connecting blocks that each do one thing, and the magic happens in how they talk to each other. TouchDesigner, Blender's shader editor, Unreal's Blueprints; they all share this DNA.
Thinking with Nodes is a workshop series built around that shared logic. Each session we pick a tool, pick a problem, and figure it out together in real time. No pre-baked patches, no "and if you did everything right, yours should look like mine." Just an honest look at what the creative process actually is, wrong turns, happy accidents, and all.
The goal is to show you how someone thinks their way through a problem, so you can start doing it yourself.

About New
New is a media company that reveals depth.
We take subjects the world thinks it already understands and show them in a way that makes people see them for the first time.
New Stadium is our collaborative third space in which we enable creatives, technologists, academics to host events and gather with each other, located at 83 Walnut Avenue.
We expect everyone here to treat people with basic dignity. No harassment, no discrimination, no behaviour that makes someone feel unsafe — in person, online, or in any interaction that started here.
If something happens, reach us at [email protected] or speak to any staff member on site. We take every report seriously.
