AlphaFold and Protein Structure Visualization Workshop with Roland Dunbrack
This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the practical use and interpretation of AlphaFold models. Roland Dunbrack will provide background on how AlphaFold works, discuss strengths and limitations of protein structure prediction, and demonstrate approaches for evaluating and visualizing predicted structures. The workshop will include examples using PyMOL, but prior PyMOL experience is not required. Participants are welcome to brush up on PyMOL in advance using Roland’s YouTube tutorial:
Participants may bring a laptop if they would like to follow along or try selected tools in real time, but this is optional.
Participants may also request feedback on their own protein structure predictions. Those interested should upload their AlphaFold files and a brief description of the project through the registration site by June 20. Submitted examples will be shared with Roland in advance, and he will select a few to discuss during the final portion of the workshop. Time will likely not allow discussion of all submissions, so early registration and submission are encouraged.
Tentative schedule:
1:00–2:00 PM: Lecture and Q&A
2:00–2:15 PM: Break
2:15–3:15 PM: Lecture and Q&A
3:15–3:30 PM: Break
3:30–4:30 PM: Audience-submitted examples and discussion
This workshop is part of the broader Symposium on AI in Protein Structure, Function, and Discovery and will take place the day before the main symposium (see here https://luma.com/40kdqwzl).
