About Event

This session offers an in-depth exploration of the complex relationship between advanced technology sectors—such as high-tech manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and supercomputing—and their shift toward renewable energy for sustainability and net-zero goals. The discussion will begin by analyzing the environmental and social impacts of these sectors, including high greenhouse gas emissions, intensive water consumption, and broader ecological effects stemming from rapid digital expansion and data center growth.

Through case studies and best practices from global innovators, the session will also showcase how energy-intensive tech facilities are adopting renewable energy solutions—while also identifying critical gaps where further progress is needed. By fostering a critical and solution-oriented discussion, this session aims to set an agenda for collaborative improvement, policy innovation, and the acceleration of holistic sustainability in the technology sector.

Objectives

•   Raise awareness about the climate and resource impacts of computing, chip manufacturing, and AI, and share industry frameworks for transparent reporting and emissions mitigation.

•   Scale up renewable energy use within high-tech industry through advanced procurement, smart energy management, and investment in next-generation clean solutions.

•   Strengthen collaboration among technology managers, energy providers, financiers, and policymakers to foster innovation, ensure reliable green power, and facilitate the digital transition to net-zero

Moderator: Dr. Milan Chen, Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC)

Keynote Speaker: Joojin Kim, CEO, Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC)

Panelists:

•   Shantanu Srivastava, Research Lead, Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis

•   Liz McDowell, Senior Campaigns Director, Stand.earth

•   Dr. Chia-Wei Chao, Research Director, Taiwan Climate Action Network

Guiding questions:

•   What are some of the most concerning climate and environmental challenges posed by rapid digital expansion and data center growth?

•   How do industry leaders prioritize and implement renewable energy initiatives?

•   What are the key steps and regulations needed to achieve a scalable transition to net-zero in technology manufacturing and operations? (e.g., power purchase mechanisms)
