Sponsored by Tidal Vision and SNØCAP

Better by Design brings together two panels into a single session

Young Climate Stories: The Next Generation at the Frontlines of Design

3:45pm - 4:05pm

This panel discussion, curated by The World Around Young Climate Prize and moderated by Dan Howarth, will explore how design and storytelling can scale youth-led solutions from around the world and why centering the voices of these young people is essential to climate justice.

  • Joseph Nguthiru is a Kenyan climate‑tech engineer, Young Climate Prize alumni and Obama Leader who founded HyaPak Ecotech Ltd., turning invasive water hyacinth into biodegradable alternatives to single-use plastics and developing solar dryers to revive farming, while driving community environmental action through river cleanups and education.

  • Pamela EA is a Mexican documentary photographer and explorer focused on climate justice and gender equality; co‑founder of Climate Words, storytelling initiatives, and youth-led climate lexicons, recognized as a Young Climate Voice and Getty Scholar.

  • Alfonse Chiu is a writer, designer, artist, and curator focusing on practices from Asia and the Pacific Rim. Amongst other things, they are the founder and director of the Centre for Urban Mythologies (CUM); the curator of PTT Space, a contemporary art gallery based in Taipei and a laureate of the Young Climate Prize.

Just Don't Say Climate: Reframing Solutions in Today's Media Landscape

4:10pm - 4:45pm

What happens when the stories we tell collide with the realities we face? In a media landscape where “climate” can be polarizing, innovators are finding new ways to frame solutions that resonate—whether restoring coral reefs, reinventing industrial chemistry, or financing resilient communities. This session explores how founders and investors navigate politics, misinformation, and cultural headwinds to bring transformative solutions to market, and how storytelling itself can shape what the public sees, supports, and believes.

Moderator

  • Sherrell Dorsey - Award‑winning climate‑tech journalist, founder of The Plug (acquired in 2023), and host of the TED Tech podcast, amplifying equitable innovation at the intersection of technology, markets, and storytelling.

Speakers

  • Craig Kasberg — Co-founder and CEO of Tidal Vision, transforming seafood waste into chitosan-based biodegradable materials and scaling the world’s first green chemistry process for aquatic leather from fish byproducts.

  • Philippe Cousteau — Multi-Emmy-nominated TV host, producer, author, and social entrepreneur carrying forward his grandfather Jacques Cousteau’s legacy through storytelling, environmental advocacy, and ocean restoration initiatives.

  • Julieta Moradei — Structural engineer, architect turned social entrepreneur and venture capitalist; managing partner of Overlay Capital Build, accelerating adoption of digital construction technologies to drive sustainable transformation in the built environment.
