Living Intelligence: Co-designing for the Biosphere, Humanity & AI
Where ecosystems meet, life is often at its richest. Ecologists call these meeting zones ecotones. Now three worlds are meeting at once: the living world, human communities and AI. Who is exploring what will grow at this intersection? This workshop aims to open up a question space for this purpose.
These three forms of intelligence are shaping what the future of Earth will be: the living world that made us, the human communities that carry our cultures & personal blueprints, and the artificial minds we are now bringing into being. Each heavily shapes the other two.
Humans now hold powerful influence over both the living world and AI, as well as within shared and emergent human spaces. This requires us to operate with far greater intention. Many defaults are being set now - in code, policy and habit. Sensing this complex field together gives us a way to ask more deeply "what do we want?"
In this context, how can humans continue growing as a collectively intelligent species, to evolve our natural intelligence and to work hybridly with AI to enhance what's possible? This workshop is a place for this practice. For 90 minutes, people in the redwoods and those gathered online will step into that meeting zone together, sensing a field of Living Intelligence: a confluence space to explore questions at the intersection of the Biosphere, Humanity and AI.
The practice. We will work in small groups to listen across perspectives and places, surfacing shared concerns & tensions to see where ideas, concepts and questions coalesce, with local and online participants exploring alongside each other. From this sensemaking and questioning Desirable Properties will start to emerge - specific conditions we can build toward and test our work against, such as who can see what an agent is doing, who it answers to and what it costs the living world.
It is a beginning. This is the start of a rich design process. The questions we gather before, during & after the workshop will feed a living inquiry. We will continue to try small, tangible build experiments along the way, so ideas can be measurably tested early. Every group that joins adds to a growing co-design movement, shaping how AI can develop alongside the Biosphere and our humanity.
The session. 90 minutes, hybrid. Come with questions, concerns, creativity or hope. One or two people from your organization is plenty.
The setting. Nestled in the redwoods of Camp Navarro, CA - part of The Gathering US - a temporary village of 12+ community-led camps. The beauty of the forest and the spirit of regenerative community make a fitting place to open an inquiry we intend to carry across the US and around the world. You are invited to arrive at this beginning moment.
This event by Camp Audax is co-created by The Coherence Company and the Meta-Layer Initiative, with support from Modern Ancients, the Alinea Institute and Geoship, plus other camp co-creators.
