​We are kicking off our new PauseaAI Ottawa chapter with our inaugural meetup, come join us!

​PauseAI is an international organization dedicated to pausing the development of frontier AI systems until this can be done safely and kept under democratic control. Canada has an important role to play in this effort. We have the world's leading AI researchers, including Yoshua Bengio and Geoff Hinton. Moreover, we are uniquely positioned geopolitically to lead the middle powers in brokering an agreement among the AI superpowers to coordinate a pause.

​The Canadian chapter of PauseAI was founded in May 2025, with most of its activities centred in Montreal since then. However, we believe it is vital to have a presence the nation's capital to exert influence on the federal government. That is why we are starting a local group in Ottawa.

​Here are some of the activities the Ottawa group can engage in:

• ​organizing protests

• ​organizing other events, such as meetups,social events, and movie nights

• ​flyering, postering, tabling

• ​presenting at student and community groups

• ​promoting our message on social media and traditional media (radio, TV)

• ​partnering with sympathetic orgs

• ​fundraising

• ​creatively strategizing about other ways to educate + animate the public + pressure decision makers to work towards a pause
