Dayta Dahta Night | Women, Sovereignty and AI, Part 1: The Labour Market
Women hold more of the jobs most exposed to generative AI and fewer of the seats that decide who goes, who stays and which tech gets bought.
Ontario now requires employers to say when AI screens job applicants. The questions women are raising go further: promotion, performance reviews and layoffs.
The evidence does not agree with itself. Harvard Business School researchers put the gap in women's AI use near 16%. OpenAI's data puts women at 52% of ChatGPT users. In the US, Pew finds men's employment grew in AI-exposed jobs while women's stayed flat, and the Chicago Fed finds employment in the most exposed occupations rose about 4% from 2019 to 2024.
Optics are pledges, statements and headcount snapshots. Infrastructure is who sits in the decision seats, which rules exist, what gets measured and what gets funded. This series works on the infrastructure.
This night puts the evidence on the table, both sides. Experts lead the claim checks and each discussion zone. You decide what holds up. Then you work through the barrier in front of you and leave with two asks: one for yourself and one for government.
This is Part 1 of Women, Sovereignty and AI, a three-part Dayta Dahta Night series. Part 2 : Trust and identity. Part 3 : The environment and data centres.
