Remembering as medicine: holding grief in sound
Grief often lives beyond words. Sometimes what is needed most is not explanation, but presence — to be held, witnessed, and supported by others who understand that loss changes us.
This gathering continues the Remembering as Medicine series — an ongoing monthly grief support circle exploring trauma-informed, arts-based, and mindfulness practices that support the processing and integration of loss.
In this session, we will explore sound as a compassionate language for grief.
Using simple, user-friendly instruments, participants will take turns co-creating a soundscape for a receiver. Each person will have an opportunity to be gently held by the group through sound, allowing grief, memory, and emotion to move and be witnessed in a way that does not rely on words.
No musical experience is necessary. The emphasis is not on performance, but on deep listening, attunement, and collective care.
Throughout the evening we will move slowly and intentionally, grounding ourselves through mindfulness and body-based practices to support emotional safety and nervous system regulation.
What to Expect
The evening will follow a gentle arc that includes:
• Arrival and grounding
• Opening circle and intention setting
• Body-based mindfulness practice
• Introduction to mindful sounding and deep listening
• Group sound circle, where participants co-create healing soundscapes for one another
• Reflection and integration
• Closing circle
A Trauma-Informed Container
This space will be facilitated by Masha Andreeva, Registered Psychotherapist and Art Therapist , who has many years of experience supporting individuals and groups through grief, trauma, and life transitions.
Drawing from training in trauma-informed psychotherapy, expressive arts therapy, somatic awareness, mindfulness practices, and group facilitation, Masha will hold the container with care and attentiveness to pacing, consent, emotional safety, and nervous system regulation.
Participants are always invited to engage at their own pace and in ways that feel supportive and respectful of their boundaries.
Who This Is For
This gathering is open to anyone carrying grief or loss — recent or long ago.
