Join Goonj and ClimArts for a screening of the ClimArts Short The Resilient River, followed by a collective movement-based storytelling session.
Anyone with an interest in climate storytelling is welcome (no dance experience needed) - come ready to share stories from your culture about water, as well as memories of your personal connection to water!
Weaving together captivating Odissi dance performances, powerful storytelling, and insights from experts, The Resilient River delves into the consequences of development projects like dams and land exploitation on the river's delicate ecosystem. It raises thought-provoking questions about striking a balance between progress and preservation, advocating for a sustainable approach that respects the river's inherent cycles.
At its core, this film is a poignant call for climate justice, which is the same as social justice. It amplifies the voices of those closest to the problem – the women whose livelihoods and cultural traditions depend on the river's well-being and alludes to the link between wetlands and floods.
Among other accolades, The Resilient River has won:
2024 Outstanding Achievement Award at Sundarban International Film Festival
2024 Best Experimental Film at Caravan International Film Festival
