About Event

AI can write the paragraph. Generate the image. Compose the music. Suggest the idea.

So what exactly are we creating?

For centuries, creativity has never happened in isolation. We borrow, combine, reinterpret, experiment and build on what came before us. Every new technology — from photography to synthesizers to digital editing — has changed not only what we create, but how we create it.

Generative AI introduces something different.

The tool can now participate in substantial parts of the creative process itself.

And that raises a much more interesting set of questions:

Where does human creativity begin and AI contribution end?

Does authorship belong to the person who had the idea, wrote the prompt, selected the output, edited it or to the entire process?

Can we really tell from a finished work how much of it was human and how much was generated?

And what happens when something can be considered creative, but may not have a creator in the legal sense?

And perhaps most importantly:

If AI makes producing things easier, could creativity itself become less about production and more about judgment, intention, connection and choosing what is worth creating?

A CONVERSATION BEYOND “HUMAN VS AI”

This edition of AI & The Human Future explores creativity not as a competition between humans and machines, but as an evolving relationship.

We'll move inside the creative process from the first idea, through prompting, generation, selection and rejection, to the human decisions that shape the final work and ultimately to the questions of authorship, copyright and value that emerge when the boundaries between human and machine contribution become less clear.

Through examples from writing, music and visual media, we'll examine:

  • how AI is changing the creative process itself

  • where human intention, taste and judgment still matter

  • what a finished work can and cannot tell us about how it was created

  • the limits of detecting AI involvement

  • how human creative choices influence questions of authorship and copyright

  • where inspiration, AI assistance and authorship begin to overlap

  • whether something can be creative without having a creator in the legal sense

  • and whether AI could ultimately change what it means to be creative

This isn't simply a conversation about whether AI can create.

It's about what being a creator means when it can.
