We’re excited to welcome Annalena Kofler, PhD candidate in Machine Learning at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tübingen, for our upcoming AI4Science meetup.
Supervised by Bernhard Schölkopf, Annalena works at the intersection of simulation-based inference and astrophysics, with a focus on neural posterior estimation for gravitational-wave signals.
She will present her recent paper, “Flexible Gravitational-Wave Parameter Estimation with Transformers,” under review at Physical Review Letters and accepted at the NeurIPS 2025 Workshop on Machine Learning and the Physical Sciences.
In this talk, she’ll share how transformer architectures can advance gravitational-wave parameter estimation and discuss her work developing the DINGO package—highlighting how modern machine learning methods are accelerating discovery in fundamental physics.
