Designing for Presence in Alternate Realities with Félix Lajeunesse, Felix & Paul Studios

Since co-founding Felix & Paul Studios fourteen years ago, Félix Lajeunesse has built an Emmy Award-winning body of cinematic and interactive VR work, with collaborators ranging from President Obama and NASA to Cirque du Soleil, Eminem, and LeBron James. His work explores the interplay between presence and storytelling, and VR's uncanny capacity to convey both the intimate and the spectacular.
In this talk, Félix traces the studio's evolution from Strangers with Patrick Watson, an intimate piece designed to be viewed at home one person at a time, to Space Explorers: The Infinite, a multi-user touring production drawn from three years of filming aboard the International Space Station. The technology, scale, and ambition have transformed. The central pursuit, fusing storytelling and presence into a cohesive emotional experience, has not.
He'll close with Interstellar Arc, the studio's most ambitious project to date, recently launched at AREA15 in Las Vegas. Spanning 20,000 square feet, it combines physical scenography and VR to transport audiences to the 27th century and humanity's first interstellar exploration program. It points to where the studio is heading next.
