Emergency Huddle: Escalation in the Middle East – Implications for Europe and Nordic Leaders
Monday | 16:00 CET | 45 minutes

The situation in the Middle East is evolving rapidly, with escalating tensions between regional and global actors. What are the strategic objectives of the key players? How might the situation develop in the coming weeks? And what are the implications for Europe and Nordic leaders?

In this Emergency Huddle, we are joined by Hugh Lovatt, Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), who will provide a short briefing on the current escalation dynamics and the geopolitical outlook.

Hugh will address:

  • The current escalation dynamics and potential scenarios in the coming weeks

  • What Israel, Iran, and the United States are seeking to achieve

  • Possible pathways toward de-escalation or ceasefire

  • The longer-term implications for the region’s security environment

  • What this could mean for Europe and Nordic decision-makers

The session will begin with a 15–20 minute briefing, followed by an interactive Q&A with members.
